In consequences of the incident of beating villagers of Nongsum by cadres of proscribed underground group KLA in the night of August 30 last defying the ground rules of SoO, fear still gripped the villagers of Nongsum.
Since representatives of Khamenlok village refused to sign the resolution of the joint meeting of the surrounding villages, some villagers of Nongsum who have fled still find their shelter in nearby villages.
According to sources, villagers fled away as a team of Police Commandos who guard the village in the daytime retreated by sunsets.
Elders of the village who returned to look after their cattle this morning came back as they heard sounds of gunfire at the hill top of Agyang village.
The villagers stopped the passenger bus and taxi services today to discussed the matter and bring an amicable solution.
But a team of Imphal East Police Commandos came and forced the owners of the passenger vehicles to resume service.
The vehicles ply with a few numbers of passengers.
When the villagers were arranging a public meeting at Uyumpok Mamang Leikai today, local MLA Th Lokeshwar came and asked them to return home.
He assured them that there will be no more such incidents since the state government discussed the incident with the UGs under SoO.
Since, Lokeshwar insured them about their safety, most of the villagers went back to their home.
Meira Paibi volunteers of Nongsum, Khongbal Tangkhul, Uyumpok and Lamboi Khul are still guarding the villages at Nongsum Keithel without a wink.
However fear still grips the mind of the villagers.
Continuous sound of gunfires at the surrounding hills is haunting the minds of the villagers.
No one knows what will happen to them and when.
