Imphal, August 29 2009:
A oil tanker was caught fire while trying to siphon off oil using a tulu pump this morning at about 7.30 at Awang Leikinthabi under Sekmai police station.
The incident occurred at the house of the driver of the oil tanker Naorem Tomba (36) son of Babu of Awang Leikinthabi Shantipur during the process of siphoning of the fuel using a tulu pump to an a privately install oil tank.
The driver drove out the burning vehicle with a view to save from causing damage to the house around 300 meter.
In that trees and other vegetations on the roadside were also burnt.
Six ducks of the neighbouring house of Ningthoujam Lukhoi also died when the fire spread and burnt the structures where the ducks were kept.
The burnt down oil tankers was co-own by T Rajen of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel and L Bije of Khambrang.
Around three kilolitre of petrol costing about Rs 1.20 lakh damaged in the firing burnt incident.
Police has registered a case under the Petroleum Act 1933 which charge of illegal storage of petroleum products, causing damage to the properties and amount to cause loss of life etc.
