The 78th death anniversary of Zeliangrong freedom fighter and spiritual leader, Haipou Jaduannang was celebrated today with rich floral tributes at the Jadaunnang Memorial at the Keisampat power house complex, Imphal.
Ritual offering of sacred wine, prayers and hymns and paying of floral tributes at Jaduannang's memorial were the highlights of the observation.
The state level observation function was held at Major Khul community hall.

The gathering also observed two minutes' silence in remembrance of the late leader.
State education minister L Jayentakumar, chief guest at the function, in his address said that Jaduannang was a multi-character man.
He was a religious and political philosopher.
He had performed many works during his short life.
Every community had one or other time.
Among them was the Jadaunnang, he said adding that his ability can be imitated by today's generation.
President, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaikhangam who presided over the function said, it is praised worthy the deed of the leader of yesteryear.
People of Manipur need to recall his bravery and spirit of love of motherland.
Forme Union minister, Professor Meichnglung Kamson recalled the life of Jadaunnang to the gathering expressing willingness to observed the day at the state level.
Haipou Jadaunnang was a mystic freedom fighter who spiritually inspired to organize the religious and social reforms among kindred tribes of Zeme, Liangmei, Rongmei and Puimei.
He was arrested and imprisoned at Tamenglong in December 1928 for mobilizing volunteers to drive out the British.
He was wrongly implicated in a murder case and was executed at Imphal on August 29, 1931 .
State works minister K Ranjit also attended the function as guest of honour.
The 78th dead anniversary of Haiphou Jadaunnang was also observed by other civil organization at various places.
The All Zeliangrong Art ad Cultural Organisation (AZACO) observed the day with a function at Khoupum Kabui Khul with floral tribute to the portrait of the leader by the gathering.
The function was graced by chairperson of the Manipur Women Development Co-operation, AK Meerabai as chief guest, former member of the Hiyangthang Gram Panchayat Goumei Mkuchung as guest of honour and AZACo president, Poudangei as president of the function.
All Community United Front (ACUF) also observed the day with a function at Sagolband Tera Leirak Community Hall.
It was presided over by the president of ACUF, Athoi Kamei and attended by president of Hijam Ibochouba, president of Yengkhom Leirak Development Club and chief of the Kimphalong (Ramji) village K Kbungba as guest of honour.
Feature assistant editor of Ereibak Laishram Imoba talked as resource person in the function on the occasion which women and youths from different parts of the state gathered.
