General Officer Commanding 57 Mountain Division and chairman of Local Board of Administration of Sainik School, Imphal Major General Shakti Gurung, VSM visited the school on August 28 .
The Major General was accompanied by Mrs Madhu Gurung, who is the president of Army Wives Welfare Association during the visit.
On his arrival, the COG was given an impressive guard of honour by the school NCC cadets.
Afterward, he reviewed the functioning of the school and expressed his satisfaction over the performance of cadets in academics and co-curricular activities.
Thereafter, the GOC inaugurated the MiG-21 aircraft shell given by Indian Air Force to motivate the cadets in the field of aviation.
He also inaugurated cadets dormitory constructed under the Special Project Assistance funded by the Government of Manipur to the tune of Rs 2 crores.
The GOC appreciated the fact that the Government of Manipur has paid due attention to improve the living conditions of the cadets and their staff of the school.
The GOC also interacted with the cadets and staff.
He advised the cadets to strive to join the National Defence Academy which is the main aim of the school and become young and smart officers of Indian Armed Forces.
Later, he gave away prizes to the winners of under-17 and under-14 years football teams which participated in the All India Sainik Schools' Championship, winner team of English debate competition in the East Zone Co-curricular Activities Championship and winners of Regional Level Science Exhibition organised at Guwahati by CBSE.
On the other hand, Mrs Madhu Gurung inaugurated the newly built school guest house also constructed under SPA at the occasion.
She also gave away prizes to the winners of Essay Writing and Painting Competition held to mark the Independence Day celebrations in the school.
