Imphal, December 04 2010:
The state tourism department's proposal to construct a five star category hotel in and around Hotel Imphal premises has led to grave concerns of displacement of villagers of the Naga River Colony also called Kabo Leikai/AT Line.
In a press release issued by the United Naga Forum, Imphal (UNFI), it was stated that the present area occupied by MPSC office, tourism department, state oil depot and Hotel Imphal were previously owned by the said village.
After acquisition by the government, only the present residential area was left for settlement.
Hinting at the possibility of being displaced, UNFI appealed to the government to fulfill its duty as protector of the lives and property of the indigenous people.
It may be mentioned that the revenue department and the Imphal East deputy commissioner had already initiated the due official processes for land acquisition for the construction of the five star category hotel in the said area even as the villagers are expressing fear of losing their village and history.
