A Felicitation of the newly elected President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaikhangam, and ADC members was held at Khoupum Gaidimjang ground yesterday.
The felicitation function was organised by the Khoupum Area Congress Committee of Tamenglong district.
MPCC President Gaikhangam attended the function along with his wife.
ADC members who had attended the programme were Sadar Hills ADC Chairman Sh Seipu, ADC Tamenglong Chairman Soihiam Haomei, Executive members Thangboi, Romwangdin, Tadinang, Dimthaorei, Hatlhing, Lungshu, Douhotlung, Makiureiyang, Kakhumjinang, Daisinlung Gangmei, Zino Kamei, Alar Thoitak and Buathaolung Panmei.
The newly elected President of MPCC and ADC members were warmly felicitated with garlands by the people of about 14 villages of Khoupum valley.
In the meeting the ADC members expressed resentment over non payment of their salaries even after they were already elected 4-5 months back.
However, they accepted that the SPF govt has completed preparations for payment of their salaries soon.
They also showed their gratitude on being elected as ADC members.
ADC elections had not been held for 20 years.
Gaikhangam while speaking in the function said that, under the able leadership of O Ibobi the SPF govt had taken the bold step to hold ADC elections so that under the ADCs, local self govt in the hills districts can now bring long desired changes.
He urged the people to extend co-operation to the ADC members in any developmental works.
He further said that the elected ADC members were elected in spite of dire threats, so this election was an historic event.
He prayed to God to guide and bless them in discharging their tasks and to let peace and harmony prevail in Manipur without any bias on communal lines.
Gaikhangam extolled the Congress as a party for the downtrodden, helping the weaker sections of the society without any discrimination of religion or community.
He further said that his party is for the poorest, and called upon all to be congress workers.
He appealed to the people not to blame one another but to come forward and contribute their valuable suggestions for the party's prosperity.
Let us work together in order to develop the hill and valley areas equally.
Only then we will witness a good state and a good India.
Popularly known as Old Cachar road Tongjei Maril will be developed with an estimated cost of ' 84 crores funding from NEC.
Once the sanction is made a DPR will be prepared without any delay.
The connectivity and development of important roads like NH 150, 53 and 39 are all going to be taken up, Gaikhangam added.
