Kangmong Gram Panchayat and Public Coordination Committee has decided to petition the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) over the construction of Konthoujam water supply scheme against the collective will of over ten thousands residents of the area.
Addressing a press meet today at the Manipur Press Club, executive member of KGPPCC, Samom Manglemjao said, the foundation stone for the Rs 14 crore project of Konthoujam Water Supply scheme was laid at Kangmong Tera Urak on June 8 this year.
He said, the public of the area have demanded the construction of a reservoir dam along the Sajirok river before the construction of the water supply scheme.
The public have also demanded the change of the name of Konthoujam Water Supply scheme to Kangmong Tera Urak Water Supply Scheme.
The PHED minister has been urged to fulfill the demands through a memorandum on July 17 last.
Ignoring the demands, the authority has begun the construction works on September 15.He said, the construction of the water supply scheme without first constructing a reservoir would be of no use.
He said, the formal complain will be lodged with the MHRC for taking up works against the will of the people.
