BJP, Yaiskul Mandal is in favour of fielding former chief minister, RK Dorendro as candidate in the ensuing bye-election to the 14-Yaiskul Assembly Constituency which has been scheduled on December 19. Meanwhile, discussion among the opposition political parties for fielding a common candidate is also underway.
The matter is likely to settle tomorrow.
Meanwhile, CPI state council has decided not to field party candidate in the bye-election.
President H Borbabu of BJP, Manipur Pradesh today said that BJP Yaiskul Mandal Committee is holding a series of meetings since Friday last as per instruction from the party.
The meeting is discussing thoroughly on the matter of fielding its candidate.
But, the final decision in this regard is yet to take.
In the meeting, the Mandal discussed thoroughly on the proposal of fielding former Chief Minister, RK Dorendro in the bye-election but Dorendro himself is not in the position of contesting the election.
The Mandal will take a decision after a meeting held to tomorrow, the party president said.
BJP state unit will hold discussion with other opposition parties like MPP after taking into account the recommendation made by the mandal but if MPP taken its decision to field its candidate.
That will also discuss between two parties, Borbabu revealed.
For the MPP, a meeting will hold tomorrow at 1 pm at the party office in which advisors and legislature will take part.
The decision taken in the meeting will be discussed with BJP and other parties, said its president, Dr Nimaichand Luwang today.
For the CPI(M), it has been very clear that the party will not field candidate in the bye-election and extend support to the common candidate field by the opposition parties.
They will take active role in fielding a common candidate against the Congress.
Even though, oppositions have started discussion on the bye-election, Congress is yet to discuss on the matter as most of its leaders including Chief Minister, O Ibobi and MPCC president, Gaikhangam are in the national capital for their respective businesses.
