Imphal, November 22 2009:
A definite decision on whether to put up its candidate or not in the Yaiskul A/C by-election is still eluding the BJP State unit.
A meeting of the BJP Yaiskul Mandal held today could not take a definite decision on the matter.
Nevertheless, the meeting resolved to work unitedly to defeat any Congress candidate contesting in the by-election.
The meeting held at the residence of former Chief Minister RK Dorendra was attended by presidents of BJP Yaiskul Mandal units of 28 polling station, executive members of these units and senior leaders of the party.
Though the question of fielding or not fielding its candidate in the Yaiskul A/C by-poll was deliberated in the meeting, no final decision could be adopted.
Subsequently it was agreed that the matter would be discussed again tomorrow at a meeting of the BJP State unit.
However, according to information received by press, it is most likely that BJP would be supporting MPP candidate without putting up its own candidate.
It is said that three councillors out of four belonging to the constituency do not support Congress.
