Imphal, October 22 2010:
A police commando personnel sustained bullet injury in his right calf early today during a counter insurgency operation at a hill at Leimaram Maning under Nambol Police Station of Bishnupur district.
The injure commando personnel was identified as T Angte Maring (30) hailing from Khunbi village.
He has been admitted at security ward of RIMS Hospital.
Reports said that the incident occurred when a team of Bishnupur Police Commando entered to the areas early this morning for a counter insurgency operation based on tip-off of presence of some armed underground cadres there.
They conducted a predawn cordon search operation in the hill.
Angte slipped down while climbing up hill.
Bullets were burst out of his service weapon and one of the bullets hit to his right calf.
He was immediately rushed to the RIMS Hospital and his condition was stated to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, an extortionist was caught by villagers of Yaingangpokpi under Lamlai police station of Imphal east district and handed over to the police even as two other coming together with him escaped.
The incident occurred yesterday morning, at about 7.30 pm.
Later, police confirmed the extortionist as an activist of KCP (MTF), identified as Laishram Ibungcha of Kongpal Laishram Leikai.
Some demand letters also recovered from him, police said.
The extortionist was caught by the villagers when he and two escaping activists threatened an individual of the village to pay a huge amount as demanded by them earlier, the report added.
On the other hand, as 58 year old woman identified as Pishak Devi of Waheng Khuman was nabbed by a combined force of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Li and handed over to a nearby police station as an activists of KCP.
Police taken her into custody after registering a case against her, police said.
