Imphal, October 22 2010:
Cdt Rocky Wahengbam, who studied in Sainik School Imphal upto Class X, is the first student from the School as well as from the North East India who has been selected to study in Global Indian International School (GIIS) Junior College, Singapore after receiving a scholarship worth 66,000 Singapore Dollar ('30 lakh) from Global Indian Foundation for two years including all related expenses.
He was selected from Kolkata center among eight scholars through three stringent phases of selection tests.
Earlier he also bagged the first position in State Talent Search Exam (1st Phase).
Then the Govt of Manipur had sponsored him to receive Scientific Training Programmes twice at prestigious BOSE Institute, Kolkata and Darjeeling along with Cdt Chingthangkhomba, who is also the product of Sainik School, Imphal.
He also stood All India 3rd Rank in NSTSE of Unified Council, Hyderabad granting him scholarship for three years.
He represented the state of Manipur in Eastern India Science Fair at BITM, Kolkata along with Cdt George Yumnam after securing top rank in State Science Exhibition.
According to a press release issued by the PIB (DW) today, other credits of Cdt Rocky include representing Sainik School Imphal in All India Quiz competition organized by Readers' Digest along with Cdt Dhanakumar at Bokaro, Jharkhand and secured 4th position among 106 best schools in the country including Bhutan.
He is an NTSE Scholar receiving scholarship from NCERT.
He is the eldest son of Wahengbam Ranjit Singh and Wahengbam ongbi Radharani Devi of Toubul Makha Leikai, Bishnupur Dist.
