Imphal, May 03 2010:
Giving a week's time to the Government to take up necessary measures to end the ongoing cease work strike of the employees, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has warned the Government that it would not remain quiet, if the latter fails to do so.
Speaking at the occasion of inaugurating a wooden bridge constructed with funding from MPP and the local farmers at Pangaltabi under Sugnu Assembly Constituency today, party president Dr Nimaichand Luwang pointed out that apart from Manipur there is is no other place in the world where the employees go on to strike for more than three months.
The inconviniences being faced by the people as a consequence of the protracted strike has shown the administrative failure of the State Government.
In case the Government fails to resolve the matter within one week, then MPP would not remain quiet but would take up necessary action in the interest of the people, Dr Nimaichand said.
Expressing concern over hike in the prices of essential commodities and its resultant impact on the poor people following imposition of indefinite economic blockade along the National Highways, Dr Nimaichand demanded that the Government should check and control the prices of essential commodities.
The Government should also take the responsibility for the current unsettling situation prevailing in the State, Dr Nimaichand said.
He further observed that with the objective of installing a new Government and bring about peace and developmental change in Manipur, MPP has been trying to work along with other like-minded parties.
After the general election of 2012, the Government led by MPP would surely come into power, he expressed confidence, and appealed to the people to elect social worker M Binod, who is going to be the party candidate.
Social worker Binod said that the bridge which was inaugurated today has been constructed and dedicated to the people, thus fulfilling one of their long cherished dreams.
Other party leaders and dignitaries also spoke at the occasion.
