A total of 1531.671 metric tones of rice mean for providing mid-day-meal to 23,4,670 students of government primary, upper primary and government aided schools for the first quarter of the financial year 2010-11 have been released, official source said today.
The quantity of rice released for three months was allocated with the approval of the Union ministry of human resources development as per recommendation of the state authority of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
Any shortage in the material will be allocated after inclusion in the supplementary demand.
The source from the state education department said, the total number of students enrolled in the government primary schools (classes from I to V) is 19,3,453 and that of students enrolled in the upper primary schools is 41,217.Under the scheme, rice is providing at the rate of 100 gm per primary level student while 150 gm per students at the upper primary level.
Out of the total rice quantity released by the department, 126.030 metric tone is for schools in Bishnupur district, 110.172 for Chandel district, 236.646 metric tone for Imphal east, 162.930 metric tone for Imphal west, 236.859 metric tone for Senapati, 150.69 metric tone for Tamenglong district, 173.379 for Thoubal district and 165.195 metric tone for Ukhrul district.
During the month of April, students will be provided 22 days mid-day-meal, 25 days in May and 13 days in June.
The department has also released Rs 57,244,229.8 for meeting expenditure in the payment of honorarium for the cooks, for buying firewood for cooking etc., it said.
The released amount was at the rate of Rs 50 for buying firewood which aggregate to Rs 1000 in a month, honorarium at the rate of Rs 75 per day per cook which aggregated to Rs 1500 per month.
While releasing the funds, school authorities were asked to submit on or before 10 of every month.
