Imphal, November 27:
Reacting to the charges of the NSCN (K) information secretary Loveson that personnel of 16 Assam Rifles in connivance with NSCN (IM) cadres were collecting money from the vehicles on the Highway on November 26, the PRO of PIB, Col Rajesh Mishra today said that the allegations are baseless.
The allegations were raised as a ploy to justify their irresponsible act, he added.
On the other hand, Loveson, the information secretary of the Zeliangrong region of the NSCN (K) today clarified that the Assam Rifles were not exactly involved in collecting taxes with IM men, but added that the tax collection from vehicles was carried out under the nose of the Assam Rifles personnel.
Explaining his point, Loveson said that there is a post of the 16 Assam Rifles at Khumji village and the IM men were openly collecting the taxes in full uniform and armed to the teeth.
The Assam Rifles personnel did nothing to stop them, he charged.
