Governor Dr SS Sidhu has stated that education is the key for success in human life and it is the most crucial element for bringing a change in the society, adjusting with time and situation.
Speaking at the occasion of Parents' Day function at Patkai Christian Academy in Ukhrul district today, Dr Sidhu said education provides knowledge, the central purpose of which is to inculcate among the students the ability to think and apply the knowledge they gain in class rooms in solving problems.
The responsibility of imparting education rests on the teachers and they are the moral guardian, the friend, philosopher and guide to mould the character and harmonious development of their personality, he said, adding that the role of the parents is also of immense importance in moulding the character of the students.
A close co-ordination between the teachers and parents is, therefore, essential in their shared endeavour and objective, he noted.
Stating that today's students are tomorrow's pillars of the nation, Dr Sidhu pointed out that they have to shape the destiny of the country.
Saying educational institutions are the sacred temples of learning, Dr Sidhu observed that in the ancient Guru Kula system of education, the 'Shishyas' Had high regard for moral values.
In fact, our Guru-Shishya tradition symbolised an embryonic bridge between the two with the teacher imparting knowledge and students receiving it.
There is the need to put back on pedestal the role of teachers and teachers on students.
Governor also donated a sum of Rs 15,000 to the Academy during the function which was also attended among others by MLA Danny Shaiza as a parents.
Later on the Governor visited Sirui village and interacted with the villagers as well as with the District level officers at the District headquarters.
The Governor would hold the night at 13 Assam Rifles, Somsai and will come back to Imphal in the morning tomorrow.
