Imphal, November 11:
Observing that its long standing demands for a reservation policy of tribals and its necessary amendments, extension of pension benefits to District Council employees, conversion of 13 grant-in-aid high schools and extension of contract basis teacher till March 2007 have been deliberately sidelined despite numerous MoUs signed earlier, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has threatened to impose economic blockade from midnight of November 13 till the midnight of November 19 which would be followed by total road blockade on the national highways.
A statement issued by ATSUM reminded that its ultimatum served to the State Government to fulfil its demands expired yesterday.
Taking strong exception to the dilly-dallying tactics of the Government, ATSUM urged the State to take up visible and practical measures immediately to fulfil its demands.
The student body further cautioned that the State Government would be held accountable for any untoward incident that might occure during the course of the proposed agitation which would be followed by total road blockade on the national highways in case the Government fails to act sincerely to redress its woes.
