Imphal, November 11: The second memorial observation, 2006 of Lamyanba Yaolloi NK Sanajaoba was held with an impressive function at Kangla Hall here today.

Organised under the aegis of Organising Committee of Lamyanba Yaolloi NK Sanajaoba Memorial Observation Committee, all those who were present at the occasion paid rich floral tributes to the photograph of NK Sanajaoba.

Born on December 30, 1936 and expired on November 11, 1995, Sanajaoba started a monthly journal named Lamyanba with himself as editor with the main objective of changing the Manipur society.

Social worker G Pougairung, retired Director of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur Aheibam Biren and the host Committee's president Dr Lokendra Arambam attended the function as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.

In his address, Pougairung said through his writings in the monthly journal which began its publication in 1969, Sanajaoba tried his level best in bringing about a social change in Manipur and succeeded in instilling patriotic feelings among the youths who started feeling proud of their motherland.

Unlike journals and newspapers of today which are filled with reports of crimes, killing, bandh, blockade, etc, the Lamyanba journal brought out critical analysis on the future of Manipur society.

In his presidential address, Dr Lokendra Arambam described Sanajaoba as a pioneering media person whose revolutionary writings evoked feeling of awe and patriotism in the hearts of the people.

he reported true account of events that took place those days, Dr Arambam added.

As part of the observation, Lecturer of Political Science, Imphal College Koijam Shethajit spoke on the topic 'Yaol Ehouda NK Sanajaoba amasung Lamyanba' and editor of Ereipak Irengbam Arun on 'Nupigee Ehouda Lamyanba NK Sanajaoba' as resource persons.

Shethajit observed that at one time Manipuri people did not have the courage to come out and pay homage to their departed leaders and feel proud of their own culture and tradition.

But after Lamyanba Irabot, NK Sanajaoba managed to instill that spirit in the hearts of the people through his editorial column brought out under the caption of Yukhal Marumda.

It was because of such efforts that even the State Government finally gave recognition to observance of Khongjom Day, Patriots' Day, Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningshing Thouram, etc in a big way.

Sanajaoba had also exposed many top corrupt officials of his day through his journal and for this he was send to jail many times, Shethajit said.

In his observation on the role of NK Sanajaoba in women's movement, Irengbam Arun noted that Sanajaoba was firmly committed to the viewpoint that women are also human being who should be treated equally like men with respect.

On the issue of reservation of seats for women, Sanajaoba maintained that it was not necessary, Arun added.

Among the guest speakers, RK Ranendrajit pointed out that organising memorial observation of Lamyanba Sanajaoba is not enough and it is essential to work towards converting his idea into action.
