Brothers give up formal education post sister's death

Imphal, December 07 2013 : After AS Reingamphy of Choither village, Ukhrul was found dead inside a rented room in South Delhi on May 29 this year, her two younger brothers have given up formal education.

Reingamphy, lovingly call-ed Angamphy by her parents was the fifth of the eight siblings born to AS Chihanpam and Tharawon.

Both the parents are illiterate and they are peasants by profession.

Choither village is located around 11 Kms East of Ukhrul district headquarters.

Talking with The Sangai Express at their home, Rei-ngamphy's father Chihanpam said that they could not afford Reingamphy's higher education because of abject poverty even though they wished very much that Rein-gamphy goes for higher edu- cation.

As such, she studied only up to class X.Determined to help her poverty-stricken parents, Rei-ngamphy went to Chennai in 2005 to work in a company there.

Late Reingamphy's family

Soon after, she started sending back Rs 4000/5000 every month.

It was from this money that her two younger brothers were sent to school at Imphal.

"But after her death, the boys had to give up formal education for we could not afford their educational expenses", said Chihanpam.

He said that Rs 70,000 borrowed from other people and spent in bringing back Reingamphy's corpse from Delhi to their home cannot be repaid till date.

Regarding Reingamphy's death, no police personnel or Government official ever came and made any enquiry at their home.

"Again, we do not have the capacity to fight for justice for we have no money to go to Court or Delhi", the disappointed father said.

On being enquired if they have learnt about the news report regarding Court's instruction to conduct blood and semen tests of all the accused, the father said that they never heard about any such development.

Saying that no newspaper is available in their village, Chihanpam said that he wish to see pictures of the accused.

Tharawon said she would like to know the facts and cir-cumstances which led to her daughter's death.

One month before her death, Reingamphy not only sent money to her parents but also made an elaborate plan for her parents to tour Delhi and celebrate Christmas together at home.

Incapable of fighting for justice through Courts, the bereaved parents are waiting for divine intervention and are praying everyday that the almighty delivers justice.
