Champion side of the just concluded CC Meet football tournament Southern Sporting union (SSU), Singjamei collected maximum points on the second day's match at the inaugural Tiddim Trophy Invitation Football Tournament 2004 at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Playing the group Z match against an under-strength Youth Welfare Club (YWC), Thambalkhong the all important goal came in the 20th minute of first half through Raman Kom.
The goal resulted from a mid-field move initiated by Gaichungam who spotted R Banny Chiru near the top of the YWC box.
The latter sensing opponent defenders closing in relayed the ball to Raman for the match-winner past a stranded goalkeeper.
Despite missing services of five of its key players presently undergoing training for the State under-19 squad, YWC did trouble the Singjamei outfit after conceding the goal through swift breaks down the flank but failed to convert the half chances into goal to emerge as second best team of the day.
SSU, on the other hand, searched for the consolation goal mainly through veteran Anil Golmei.
Anil, himself could have increased the lead in the 62nd minute but his powerful drive ricocheted off the YWC crosspiece.
