Imphal, January 20: The first Manipuri to clear the MBBS as well as the first Manipuri to be awarded the FRCS (Edinburgh, UK), Dr Laifungbam Nanda Babu Roy passed away yesterday at 9.25 pm at St John's Medical Hospital, Bangalore after a protracted illness.

Born on December 5, 1920 to late Dr L Bharat Roy and Late Smt L Ongbi Nayani Devi, Dr Nando did his schooling from Johnstone High School and passed his matriculate in March 1939.He pursued Intermediate Science from Cotton College, Guwahati and did his MBBS from Carmichael Medical College now known at RG Kar Medical College.
