Imphal, January 20:
Union Ministry of Surface Transport and Highways has stopped releasing funds for the development of NH-150 Churachandpur-Tipaimukh Road, disclosed an official source.
Informing that the Ministry of Surface Transport and Highways had entrusted the developmental works of the NH-150 to Border Road Orga-nisation (BRO) in June 2001, sources added that the BRO had asked the State Govt for providing three battalions of CRPF for security measures for developing the NH 150 which would link Manipur and Mizoram when completed.
Sources also stated that the Union Ministry had taken the drastic step of blocking all funds for the project as no developmental works could be taken up on the NH 150 due to the State Govt's inability to provide necessary security cover to the BRO workers.
It also added that Central Govt had not yet provided the required three battalions of CRPF till date despite giving its assurance to provide it earlier.
Meanwhile, development of Yaingangpokpi-Churachandpur road which is part of the NH 150 is likely to be started very soon under the guidance of the local MLAs despite the blocking of all developmental funds by the Union Ministry, informed the official source.
