MC Mary Kom leading the State's challenge in the ongoing sixth Senior Women National Boxing Championship at JRD Tata Steel Complex, Jharkhand stormed into the final of the 46 kg category following an easy defeat of haryana's Poonam in the semi final today.
The champion pugilist, who outscored her semi final rival in the first round itself prompting referee to stop contest, will face Sapna of Kerala in the title bout tomorrow.
According to information provided by State boxing officials from Jharkhand, Manipur is neck to neck with haryana on points race and will need to register outright victories in all the three finals that Manipuri boxers will feature tomorrow to keep their nearest rival at bay from the championship crown.
The other finalists include S Ibemcha and L Sarita Devi, with the latter also scoring an impressive win in the 54 kg bout against Priyanka of Uttranchal.
While Sarita takes on Delhi's Anita Sharma Ibemcha Devi, 2015 winner over Suman of Delhi, will slug out against Jeny Lalremliani of Mizoram in the final.
The Mizo, girl is also an international level competitor having represented the country in a number of Asian and world championships.
Manipur has so far collected three bronze medals as Latarani (50 kgs), Mandakini (52) and Sangita Devi (64) suffered defeats against their respective opponents by narrow margins.
