Imphal, December 03: If everything goes as planned Manipur will be at par with other advanced states imparting high-tech education in the near future as installation of e-learning facilities in almost all the study centers in the state is in the offing.

Manipur University's Vice Chancellor Dr N Bijoy Singh addressing the valedictory function of the three-week refresher course in economics today conveyed of the central implementing authorities set to dispatch 50 Satellite Interaction Terminals (SITs) and 150 Receive Only Terminals (ROTs) in the state.

While the Indian Space Research Organization would provide satellite vehicle, the University Grants Commission would fit the learning content in the e-learning systems in the state, said the VC in his deliberation at the varsity complex.

Drawing similarility between system of e-learning and video conferencing, Prof Bijoy exuded confidence that after launch of SIT students and teachers alike can interact with experts via satellite in any complicated matters of their respective subjects.

Moreover, selected colleges and even schools would be provided these e-learning facilities, he said while informing that ground works for installing necessary infrastructures for the high-tech education system is being undertaken in a favourable pace.

Dwelling on quality education aspect of the proposed learning system, Prof Bijoy stressed on two major elements � quality teaching and quality learning that consequently necessitates quality teachers, high-tech teaching infrastructure and materials so as to produce quality products (students).

Refering to conversion of Manipur University to the status of a central university and highlighting series of all round development projects on the pipeline, the VC appealed to the teaching faculties to produce quality students capable of competing at the global level.

He also informed of the recent decision passed by the academic council of the varsity agreeing in principal to introduce 23 new faculties in phase-wise manner by the year 2020 adding that "With this vision documentation we will see a totally changed university by the targetted year".

The proposed faculties include Integrated Biotechnology Course (Msc Biotechnology), Masters in Physical Education, Social Work, Fine Arts, Environmental Science, LLM Integrated Law Course, Centre for Conflict Studies and Human Rights Monitoring Cell, Institute of Tourism, Centres for East Asian Studies, Gandhian studies, Women studies, Surface Science etc.
