Imphal, December 03: Appreciating restrictions imposed on forthcoming students union election by AMSU and DESAM the proscribed KYKL described the joint decision as realisation of ills of Indian political system and semblance of maturity of the student community.

Previous practice of ceaseless expenditure, indulgence in gambling, screening of adult movies, organising feasts, staying overnight at candidates' residence etc in run-up to elections for student unions is a fallout of corruption infested political doctrine currently prevalent in India which a precarious State like Manipur cannot afford and should not follow at any cost, said the underground organisation in a statement.

Expressing confidence that joint endeavour of the two students body would be vital in shaping the future of Manipur, KYKL also termed the prohibitions as turning point of Kanglei politics.

It is heartening and worth applauding that AMSU and DESAM realising harmful effects of disturbing elements that had crept into student politics decided to take such an important decision as responsibility of students in moulding future society could never be undermined, endorsed the UG group's statement issued by deputy secretary of its publicity and research Apabi Mangang.

Students movement in the right perspective in a suppressed society like Manipur is even more essential as there is immediate necessity for the society to overcome several ills that had been implanted into the minds of the people due to prolong domination by the indian system of politics centred around corruption and ingredients completely alien to principle of true democracy, said the deputy secretary.

Stating that prolong occupation of Manipur for over 50 years had crippled the economy from being a self-sufficient one to a dependent nation, the KYLK relied on corrective measures by the student community for restoration of the past glory.

Existence under rigours of Indian system besides reducing Manipuris to a begging lot, losing national and moral character had also led to the people compromising on spirit of hard work and gradual extinction of its 2000 years old history that could once take pride for having gifted polo to the world, rich dance form etc which are reminiscences of a civilization, observed the statement.

Reiterating responsible role to be enacted by the students, KYKL said only concerted effort of the student community could breed a society where individual willing to sacrifice and work for the people would not be a rarity as is the present case scenario.

Asserting that students of today's Manipur are faced with an uphill task due to corruption, drug problems, poverty and unemployment among others having spread their tentacles in all corners of the State and the people made to believe that only way to survival is meanness and self-centric endeavours, KYKL called upon the students to contribute their mite in cleansing the society rather than embrace concept of self satisfaction.
