Imphal, August 01 2010: A team of Imphal west police commandos apprehended an underground, escaping from a mob erupted while they attempted to kidnap a doctor from his residence by hijacking an Activa Honda, today but his accomplice made good to his escape from the mob as well as police.

Reports said that the two KCP (Lamphel) faction activists with small arms sneaked into the house of the Dr Kangujam Nilachandra, head of orthopedic department of JN Hospital, at Khwairakpam Sega road in Imphal at about 6.30 am and asked for the doctor to her wife.

On the refusal to call out her husband, the two miscreants took out arms in their possession and pointed to her, a labourer working at the doctor's house and a man at the pharmacy at the gate of the doctor's residence and threatened to shoot at if the doctor failed to come out of his house and go with them.

They also fired at least two rounds of the guns when the doctor was seen ran away from his house towards his neighbourhood.

The doctor escaped unhurt but alarmed by the gun firing sound, local residents rushed towards the doctor's house and chased after the two youths.

The two escaped from the crowd by hijacking a scooter (Kinetic Honda) from a lady nearby at gun point before police commandos arrived at the spot.

The police commandos who rushed to the house of the doctor on getting the news acted swiftly in chasing after the escaping two undergrounds and apprehended one of them by overpowering at Kwakeithel Moirangpurel area around 500 meter away from the doctors' house.

They nabbed underground was later identified as Thangjam Kiranjit alias Boy alias Chingkheinganba (26) son of Th Nila Sigh of Hojai Udoipur of Assam.

A 9 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds recovered from the nabbed militants.

On spot verification police established the identity of the escaped militant as Sougrakpam Nelson alias Sushil alias Bhul Makok alias Bhaimacha (26) son of S Parijat Singh of Keishampat Sega Road Jailer Leirak, police said.

Family of the doctor could not immediately established the motive behind the attempt to abduct the doctor but suspected that it would have related with the police arrest of 11 activists of KCP together from his house in February last of this year.
