Executive Engineer SC Madal of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, who was among the 13 member team of the Centre visiting the state, today inspected the sinking portion of the NH 39 near Maram bazar along with state Works Minister K Ranjit, where repairing works were going on in full swing.
With cutting of new road at the sinking zone nearing completion, vehicles including heavy trucks have started crossing the area.
More than 157 loaded trucks stranded on the Mao side of the highway since the landslide occurred had crossed from yesterday morning, a report said.
The official, along with the Minister, inspected the sinking portion of the NH-39 which affected the highway about 100 meters at Maram Bazar in Senapati district.
The portion of the road has slid down for about 40 feet as a result of which cutting of a new road on the hill side is underway.

The Executive Engineer left the place soon after assessing the damaged road portion without giving any comment, but Minister Ranjit said that the road was totally disconnected by the landslide which occurred on the night of July 28 last, but now with the hectic efforts of the labourers of the PWD, vehicles including heavy trucks have started crossing the area now.
In the next two or three days, normalcy in traffic movement will be resumed, he expressed confidence.
The Minister further informed reporters at the spot that the Union Ministry of Road Transports and Highways has agreed to sanction Rs 65 crore for improvement of NH 39 .
After the rainy season the improvement works both NH-39 and NH-53 will resume in full scale.
For the NH-53, repairing works is going on.
For the NH-53, keeping behind the matter of taking over the maintenance works, 5% of the total budget allocation of PWD has been earmarked for the repairing of the NH-53, the minister said.
The making of an accessible road of highway taken up by the PWD will be completed by March or April next year without blacktopping of the whole straight, the minister said adding government is efforting to make the highway at least an accessible one.
Out of eight identified weak bridges on the NH-53, repairing works of three of them competed and the repairing works of other bridges has started.
After the end of the rainy season, the repairing works will be speed up in full scale, the minister added.
During the visit, the minister also inspected the progress of the construction works of the Mini Secretariat at Senapati district headquarters and the improvement works of Dinku road connecting Khongnang Anikarak with Khurai Lamlong.
