Imphal, August 01 2010:
Taking strong exception to the undue interference by employees' association in the work of the board of administration of the Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank (IUCB) thereby causing immense trouble to the customers in addition to assaulting and abusing the manager of IUCB Wangkhei branch, newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, Khumbongmayum Gojendra has stated that necessary steps would be taken up to pursue legal action against the employees' association.
Speaking to media persons at the office of the Board of Directors inside the bank today, Gojendra said that Board of Directors nominated recently by the Government joined duty on July 28 with the intention to do something for people.
However, the bank staff under influence by some elements refused to cooperate with the Board of Directors and went against the interest of the share-holders and the general public.
Nevertheless, the Chairman appealed to all the IUCB employees to cooperate with the Board of Directors so that the bank can grow and provide quality service to all customers.
The employees' association which is there in the first place for the welfare of employees has been interfering in the function of the board of administration at the instigation of some elements instead of doing anything for the welfare of employees, Gojendra asserted.
Stating that such interference is against the rules of the bank, he observed that the employees' association closing and opening the bank at their whim is violative of the Industrial Dispute Act 1947 .
Besides being a public institution which is included under essential services category, one cannot close or open the bank at his/her own fancy.
As per rules, a notification should be invited to the bank authority 14 days ahead before taking recourse any strike, Gojendra said.
The employees' association closing the door thereby putting away all employees from the bank even after knowing all these facts is nothing but violation of people's rights.
Moreover, the threatening and abusing the Manager of IUCB Wangkhei branch was against the law.
For all these reasons, necessary steps would taken up to initiate legal action against the employees' association.
The Chairman further said that due notification would be issued for recruitment of staff on contract basis to replace the existing staff in case they do not return to their duties at the earliest in public interest.
