Beyond everyone�s expectation the Manipur Science Centre tucked away in the serene location of SAI Road Takyelpat has today become the happening place for students and youngsters to learn and enjoy simultaneously.
Caught in the vicious cycle of everyday stress and strain in not only pursuing academic excellence but forced to involve in social and political situation which are stricly adult affairs, the Centre is inarguably the only place where knowledge can be acquired through amusement activities.
It would incorrect to interpret the Centre as merely an amusement-centric place as several gadgets available here expands knowledge base of the visitors - students and children.
Conceived through the efforts of the Department of Science and Technology, Manipur with patronage of National Council of Museums, Ministry of Culture the Centre and located three kilometres from the capital city, the Centre today boasts of various sections divided into indoor and outdoor consisting of Science Gallery, Human Performance Gallery, Children Activity Corner, Planetarium and Science Park among others.
In an exclusive chat with TSE, the Centre�s Curator TD Kom explained that the site is highly suitable for inquisitive children with an attitude to understand the unknown world of science revelled on the fact that the Centre could attract 10,000 visitors so far since the May 18 inauguration.
Determined to make the Centre a permanent converging point for conducted (excursion) programmes of school children the Curator desired that educational institutions located in every nook and corner of the State enthralled their pupil with the science models spread across the sprawling campus.
He also informed that visitors are heartily welcomed from 10 am till 4.30 pm every day with the exception of Monday.
While arm-wrestling with a robot is the main attraction in the amusement section science planetarium with heavenly bodies swirling around makes the onlookers awestruck and inquisitive, commented TD Kom , the man in-charge of one of the most precious gift a child could expect.
The Centre�s officials are making relentless effort to add a �computer corner� to enhance IT knowledge acquisition base and make the scientific advancement accessible to the young minds, he added.
Other alluring factor of the Centre include a mirror image of the onlooker with the head separate from the body part and a model detailing principle of musical instrument in the amusement gallery section.
In the human gallery closet, besides armwrestling with the robot, visitors are glued to experiment on colour vibration, a machine to test human speed.
The entertainment does not end with the science gadgets alone but visitors are kept busy through scientific explanation of miracles commensurate with magic shows.
The first of its kind in the State, the Centre also offers machineries to measure human endurance in terms of length, height, flexibility and strength performances and many other gadgets whose learning value and amusement scale could be measured only through spot assessment and personal contact.
