Imphal, July 05:
Terming the State govts declaration of June 18 as State Integrity Day as the right step in recognising the day and showing solidarity to the peoples movement to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, the Threatened Indigenous Peoples Society (TIPS), Manipur has called upon the bodies enforcing economic blockade to review their course of action.
Observing that June 18 is a red letter day in the modern history of Manipur, TIPS in a statement today said it is not a time for fist fight but to identify and keep away from the designs of the brutish and cunning enemy within.
Having suffered together for over 50 years, no room should be provided to disruptive forces to scheme the divide and rule policy as it is the prerogative of the people themselves to solve the problem, if any, said TIPS.
It further desired that instead of adopting measures that could cause social upheavals which the divisive force would relish; the need is to weed out the forces that intend to create divisions amongst the people.
On the logic behind the economic blockade demanding immediate revocation of declaring June 18 as a State holiday, TIPS questioned whether the agitation is a fallout of the ongoing peace talks between New Delhi and NSCN (IM) which is making little headway.
In the face of the uncertain fate threatening the very existence of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam or Tripura every section of society in the region should realise the futility of enlarging one State that is detrimental to the interest of the other, asserted TIPS.
Stating that at no time has the world witnessed remapping of territorial boundaries of Nation States being decided over a cup of tea TIPS cautioned Govt of India to give up policy of favouritism.
