Taking cognisance of the important role being played by Manipuri films in reforming the society, the two-day workshop on the rightful face of Manipuri film which concluded at Kangla Hall here today has pledged to produce films which are in tune with the cultural ethos of the society.
In order to strengthen the fledgling Manipuri film industries, the workshop also prepared a draft recommendations for the Government to take note of while bringing out the proposed film policy.
The recommendations pointed out that the Government should pay due consideration to the suggestions and resolutions already adopted by film associated persons and organisations.
The Government should pay the same due importance accorded to the celluloid films to the films being produced on digital/video format and make necessary arrangement to allow the digital films to participate in the film festival being organised by Directorate of Film festival, the recommendation said, adding that the State Cabinet should take a decision in this regard at the earliest possible.
To enable the people to appreciate good films right from a young age, it is essential that the Government initiate measures to include film related lessons in the school syllabus of class X, XI and XII besides setting up a film study centre at Manipur University, the recommendation observed.
The recommendation further noted that the Manipur Film Development Corporation, which is presently under Art and Culture Department should be brought under the Directorate of Information and Public Relations so that a close link could be developed between the people and the film policy makers.
