Imphal, February 27:
Many sections of people have expressed serious concern over the shortage of kerosene oil which is sold at the rate of Rs 40 per litre or more even as the official price is fixed at Rs 10 per litre.
The problem is further compounded by the erratic power supply when the most deciding exams in the career of students are round the corner.
A guardian of a student appearing in the coming council exam alleged that the previous Goverments were able to somehow provide regular electricity during such exam time even if the financial conditions were extremely sick but the present Government comprising of Congress and CPI seems more concern with their motive to earn huge profits by selling kerosene in black market.
It is reported that kerosene is one of the commodities controlled by the State Government and there is provision of 3000 litres of K-oil per month for every MLA to make up deficiencies to meet people's demand.
It may be recalled here that Dr Nimaichand Luwang had drawn the attention of the State Assembly concerning the unavailability of K-oil through the agents while it is freely available in the market at an exhorbitant.
He had even called upon the House members that MLAs are meant to legislative activities not for distribution of K oil.
Meanwhile, the Chingamakha Meira Paibi Apunba Lup have urged the aurhority concerned to ensure sufficient supply of kerosene and electricity in view of the forthcoming Board and Council exams.
The Lup observed that even though local agents are not provided K Oil, mobile hawkers are supplied in plenty who fixed the price of K oil according to their whim.
