Making it clear that the Government is committed to protecting and preserving the historical sites at Palace compound, Chief Minister O Ibobi today informed the Assembly that the Govt would not disturb the customary and religious rites performed at the Palace.
Replying to a call attention motion moved by Opposition leader RK Dorendra, the Chief Minister said that after acquiring the historical sites such as the Chongabon, Durbar Hall and Lambi Lampak, the Government will maintain them properly and added that the required fund would be earmarked and reflected in the Budget allocation.
The motion was supported by MLA L Ibomcha and MLA M Bhorot.
Stating that other States have already acquired their respective Palaces and historical sites, the Chief Minister said that the move initiated by the SPF Govt to take over the Palace is rather late.
The Government's main priority is to protect the historical sites, said the Chief Minister and called upon as the concerned, the NGOs, experts and others to extend co-operation in chalking out the modalities to protect the important sites.
Acknowledging the sanctity and sacredness of the Royal Palace, the Chief Minister said that there would be no restriction in holding the customary rites there.
While moving the motion, RK Dorendra noted the settlement worked between the Government an the Sana Konung Semgat Marup which led to the calling off of the proposed indefinite general strike from February 27.
