Manipur fencers have shown its supremacy again with the winning of overall champions in the 6th sub-junior national fencing championship concluded on March 3 at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh by bagging 8 gold medals out of 12.Manipur won the overall champions in the 5th edition of the championship held at Patiala last year by bagging same number of gold medals.
It is worthwhile to mention that Manipur bagged a total 11 gold medal out of 12 in the 11th edition of Junior National Fencing Championship held at Imphal during February 16 to 19.Chief coach of Fencing Association of India Istvan Marton who witnessed the championship also showered his blessing to the Manipur fencers.
He said Manipur have the best fencers in the country.
Fencing is one of the 'many' events which has dominance of Manipur.
Manipur�s huge haul of medal in the V National Games held at Imphal and subsequent national games held in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh were from this discipline.
This apart, Manipur have been winning overall champions of senior, sub-junior and junior national for the last few years consecutively.
Manipur fencers swept the golds in girls foil, sabre and foil events.
In all-Manipur final bout of foil event Iden Devi defeated Bindu Devi to claim the gold medal.
Sophia Devi and Daina Devi won gold medals in epee and sabre events respectively.
Manipur girls also won gold medal in the epee, sabre and foil team events.
