Imphal, March 05:
Calling upon all to contribute their mite towards the cause of Manipur, former MP Kim Gangte today said that the time has come for all to start asking what they can do for Manipur rather than asking what Manipur can do for them.
Speaking as the chief guest at the concluding function of the 1st State Level Junior Open Volleyball Tournament at Lamding in Thoubal district, Kim Gangte said that the people as a whole should come together to protect the interest and aspirations of the people of Manipur.
Each one of us has a responsibility for making Manipur a better place to live in, she added.
The former MP said that politics is not only about winning and losing elections but entails a whole gamut of activities ranging from serving the interest of the people and working for the betterment of Manipur.
Scoffing at the much touted phrase, friendly contest, Kim Gangte said that there can be no such thing as friendly contest in the political elections.
Lauding the sportspersons, the former MP said that it is the sportspersons who have put Manipur on the sporting map of the world and noted that even a little girl from the hills, Mary Kom, which do not have proper infrastructure, has managed to make a name for herself in her chosen field of sports.
A number of sportpersons have brought glory to the State; she said and added that sportspersons of any discipline should be given their due recognition for etching the name of Manipur on the map of sports.
Acknowledging the laurels won by women sportspersons for Manipur, Kim urged all women folk to take a greater interest in sports and bring more pride and laurels to the people of Manipur.
Women too have a great role to play in the overall development of Manipur, said the former MP and urged all women to come forward and play a major role in decision making.
