To check instances of road mishaps during Yaoshang festival, Imphal West District Police would be organising a special drive to strictly implement certain norms and pull up any wrongdoers.
During the drive, all the police personnel of the district would give emphasis in observing certain rules and regulations on the part of the public while driving their vehicles and those who defy the norms would be penalized.
Accordingly, any person caught driving motor vehicles without license might be imprisoned upto 3 months or imposed a fine of Rs 500 or both u/s 181 of Motor Vehicle Act.
The same penalty would also be given to any minor driving motor vehicles.
In case of owners of vehicles allowing a minor (under-aged) or a person without driving license to drive his or her vehicle, the punishment would be imprisonment upto 3 months or a fine of upto Rs 1000 or both under the Act.
For driving without Registration Certificate of the vehicle, a fine of Rs 2000 which may be extended upto Rs 500 u/s 192 MV Act would be imposed and for driving vehicle without insurance certificate, the penalty may be imprisonment upto 3 months or a fine upto Rs 1000 or both under section 196 of the same Act.
The penalty for triple riding on a two-wheeler vehicle would be a fine ofRs 300 under section 128 of MV Act and for vehicles plying without displaying Registration Number would also be a fine of Rs 300 under section 192 of the same Act.
Imprisonment upto 6 months or a fine upto Rs 1000 or both under section 185 MV Act awaits for penalty for driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of liquor or drug whereas a fine upto Rs 400 for the first offence and a fine of upto Rs 1000 for the second offence u/s 183 MV Act would be imposed for driving at excessive speed.
Over-loading of car/Maruti Gypsy/Maruti van/bus in violation of Section 113 (B)MV Act would suffer a fine upto Rs 300 u/s 177 of the same Act.
Driving a motor vehicle at a speed which is dangerous to the public would also amount to violation of the road safety norms the penalty for which would be imprisonment upto 6 months or a fine upto Rs 1000 u/s 184 MV Act.
Meanwhile, Imphal West District SP S Ibomcha, MPS in a statement has made it clear that the special drive has been made not with any intention of disturbing the festive mood of the people during Yaoshang festival but to check the alarming instances of road mishaps which would be avoided with a little application and co-operation from all concerned.
