Imphal, March 05:
Giving an ultimatum to Govt for meeting their demands within March 11, all the part-time lecturers working in various Govt higher secondary schools have decided to boycott the HSSLC examination scheduled to begin from the very next day.
Announcing the decision during a press conference at Hotel Nirmala this afternoon,.
general secretary of All Manipur Govt Hr Sec Part-time Lecturers' Assn K Romeo said that the ultimatum had already been served to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on March 1 for fulfilling their demands for service extension and payment of minimum basic pay as the new ROP and formulation of a State Draft policy for the part timers.
There are in all 870 lecturers including 344 part-lecturers in the existing 43 Govt Hr Sec Schools.
Out of the 43 higher secondary schools, 22 schools are almost entirely being run by part-time lecturers, he maintained, lamenting that though they have been slotted as part-time lecturers, they are rendering their-services just like regular teachers.
Informing that the Govt had appointed them on a monthly emolument of Rs 1000 each and afterward agreed to pay Rs 2000 monthly as minimum basic pay, Romeo contended that the part timers are entitled to enjoy a monthly emolument of Rs 7500 as per the new ROP.
Other part-timers who were present at the press conference also complained against giving of a lump sum amount of Rs 4000 instead of the minimum basic pay they are entitled to.
With such a meager pay and that also not regularly couple with non-extension of their service tenure, a festive occasion like Yaoshang is going to be a lackluster one, they rued.
They also flayed the recent Cabinet decision for appointing 22 new part-timers despite an earlier decision of the Government not to regularize the service of the part-timers and warned of intensifying their agitation in pursuance of the demands.
Highlighting their grievances, some of the lady part-time lecturers came out strongly against alleged denial of maternity leave to a lady part-time lecturer working teaching Geography subject in Mayang Langjing Hr Sec School as well as alleged denial of 5 months salary to another lady part-time lecturer teaching English subject in N Tomchou Hr Sec School, Mayang Imphal.
