Imphal, December 29 2008:
THE ALL Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) in association with volunteers and students of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Takyel had broken the locks of the classrooms of Women's ITI at Takyel which was locked by contractors due to non-payment of bills for its construction.
According the students of the ITI, two persons came on a motorbike on December 26 and locked all the rooms of Women ITI building saying that it was locked as the government has not paid the bill for its construction till the day.
Since then, the students reported to have stayed away from their normal classes.
Speaking to pressmen, education secretary of DESAM, Thoithoi said that the contractors should legally fight for their bill against the government despite victimizing students who are the future of the society.
Thoithoi also appealed to the government departments to pay out the bills of the contractors for their hard work and also suggest abandoning the culture of blocking contractors' bill in greed of percentages.
