THE FIRST day of two day National seminar on "Urban problems and strategies for development with special reference to Manipur' here at the Manipur University campus Canchipur saw different constructive views on state's urbanization.
During the first technical session of the seminar which was chaired by Prof R P Singh,former head of department of Geography Thoubal college teacher Dr Th Jugindro presented a paper on 'urban growth and associated problems:an experience in Manipur' while Dr Rajmani,Th Surjit,Ksh Ranjan of Commerce department read out a paper on 'urbanisation of Imphal city:problems and remedial measures' which was followed by one Sanjay's trends of urbanization in Manipur.
Jibanlata Sansam,a research scholar of the history department also read out a paper on 'growth of urban settlement and its administration in the history of Manipur during the session.
Former Chief Town planner of the state H Dilipkumar Singh, also presented a paper on 'Urban development problems and prospects in Manipur' in the second session of the day which was chaired by Prof D K Nayak of NEHU's geography department.Lalzagou Neihsial,senior lecture of geography in Churachandpur college and Bimal K Kar of Gauhati university also presented separate papers on 'Transportation works in churchandpur district and significance on churachandur growth centre' and 'Impact of gorowing population pressure of Guwahati city upon its fringe areas'.
Interetingly,one Elangbam Nixon,Reader in department of management of Mizoram University while presenting a paper on 'Population growth and urbanization: a case study of Manipur' opined that the need of the hour is proper implementation of Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act 1960 with necessary modification for an advanced urbanization in the state.
