As a part of 175th anniversary celebration of the Assam Rifles a motor rally was flagged off yesterday at Kangla Fort.
The main aim of the rally which was flagged off by the Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat at Kangla Fort on March 16 in the presence of Maj Gen CA Krishnan and other eminent guests is to garner goodwill and spread message of peace and harmony in all the insurgency affected States of North East India, said a PRO HQ IGAR (S) release.
The Peace Rally comprises one officer, one junior commissioned officer and 28 gallant soldiers of Assam Rifles on 15 Hero Honda motorcycles, the statement said.
After travelling a distance of 2500 km the rally will be flagged in at Shillong by Lt Gen KS Yadav, Director General of Assam Rifles on March 25 to mark its culmination, it said adding the rallyists would also conduct various laudable activities for the local population including symposium on awareness of AIDS and other diseases like malaria, distribution of medical kits, quiz in local school and motivational talk on Assam Rifles and recruitment procedures.
