Imphal, May 15:
The 24-hour general strike called by United People's Front (UPF), Manipur in protest against the arrest and subsequent lodging in jail of its Ithai unit general secretary Laishram Premjit by security forces passed off peacefully.
The general strike came into effect since last midnight and concluded midnight today without reports of any untoward incident from any part of the State.
However, normal day to day routine of the people remain affected during the strike with public transportation staying off the roads and market places closed.
Schools and colleges also remain closed and the attendance in the Govt offices reportedly thin.
Strike supporters were seen erecting road blockade at many places.
