S Sokhel Koireng has been coronated as the new chief/Khullakpa of Longa Koireng village.
The investiture ceremony of the new Khullak pa of the village was held today.
71-year old Sokhel Koireng is the seventh chief of the village.
He is the first person of the village who held a Govt post.
After his retirement from service as headmaster, he is presently discharging his duty as the president of Koireng Tribe Union.
Established in 1901 with only eight families/surnames, Longa Koireng village has today in all 75 households with a total population of 475 people.
According to Sosel Koireng, an elderly person, the custody of the village was handed over to the Koirengs by the Kabuis during the Kuki Rebellion.
Along with the coronation, the memorial stone of the Khullakpaship was also erected today.
The event was also attended by Chiefs of various neighbouring villages.
