A seven-day training programme on 'water management in rice under different land situation' organised by Manipur Centre of the ICAR Research Complex, North Eastern Hill Region concluded successfully at its Lamphelpat office today.
A total of 38 farmers including three women farmers coming from all districts of the State participated in the training programme during which several topics related to efficient use of water and its importance were discussed along with practical by different resource persons.
The valedictory function held today was chaired by Professor and Head of Agronomy Department, CAU Dr L Nabachandra Singh as chief guest.
Senior Scientist and Joint Director in-charge of ICAR Manipur Centre Dr I Meghachandra as functional president and Programme Co-ordinator of KVK, Imphal West Dr S Basanta Singh as guest of honour.
In his address as chief guest, Dr Nabachandra stressed upon the importance and role of water in agriculture, particularly rice cultivation and observed that water will become one of the most sought after resource in future.
In his presidential address, Dr Meghachandra drew the attention of the farming community for judicious and efficient use of water for more cropping and thus increase food production.
