A driver of inter-state bus kidnapped by militants on last Monday reportedly rescued by the troops of 36 Assam Rifles and handed over to the Senapati police along with two other persons said to be involved in kidnapping the driver, a police source here said.
The driver was rescued from Kangpopkpi area in Senapati district by the troops of 36 Assam Rifles, the official reports said.
Oinam Kishorjit (44) son of O Tomba, a resident of Phubala village in Bishnupur district, driver of an inter-state passenger bus (MN-1-1585) plying the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 was kidnapped by some suspected activists of KCP (Task Force) on Monday last from Hanubi Bridge near the Taphou Kuki Village along the NH-39 while the bus was heading Dimapur from Imphal with passenger.
Senapati Police taken up a suo-motu case on received of the information on the same day and investigation was on to trace out the driver allegedly kidnapped in connection with extortion demand from the bus.
The driver is working with Network Travels.
Authority of the 36 Assam Rifles posting at Taphou area of Senapati district today handed over the driver, Kishorijt along with two other persons who allegedly involved in the kidnapping case to the Senapati police this after, police said.
While handing over them, AR authority said the police that the driver was rescued during a search operation launched this morning at Kangpokpi area.
The rescued driver along with the two alleged kidnappers identified as RK Lainsingh, (32) son of Achaou and Basanta (36) son of L Ibopishak, both hailing from Imphal along with one 9 mm country made pistol and two live rounds recovered from them were handed over to the Senapati police.
The successful operation was launched by the troops of 36 AR under Red Shield Division as part of assisting to a massive search operation launched by the police for recovering the individual.
On receipt of information concerning the kidnapping extensive efforts were made by Senapati Brigade and troops of 36 Assam Rifles who rescued the individual from a house in KPI, Ward No 9, where he had been detained by the UGs, a statement of the PRO, PIB (Defense Wing), Imphal claimed.
