In connection with the February 27 night incident of an alleged extortionist stabbing two civilians a public meeting held at moirang Kampu ground today resolved to form a JAC of three villages and to maintain vigil for self-protection till normalcy prevails in the area.
The meeting attended by residents as well as representatives of local NGOs and women organisations of three Imphal East district villages namely Top, Moirang Kampu and Khurai Ningthoubung took serious note of one Md Yahiya Khan causing stab wounds to the son and a grand-daughter of Ayekpam Ningthourel of Top Moirang Kampu on February 27 night.
Yahiya Khan of Khabeisoi is informed to be an activist of the proscribed KCP (KK Nganba) group and had approached Ningthourel to cough up the balance amount of a specific sum demanded by the armed outfit.
Yahiya was apprehended by the locals, thrashed and handed over to the police on the same night.
besides resolving to form the JAC and guard the localities, the meeting further decided to prevail upon the banned organisation to clarify on Yahiya's conduct and to ensure safety of Ningthourel and his family.
State level NGOs were also urged to intervene and resolve the matter at the earliest so as to enable the Ayekpam live without fear and apprehension.
It is informed that a KCP demand note of Rs 5 lakh signed by the outfit's general secretary KK Nganba was served to A Ningthourel on February 2. While Rs 20,000 had already been paid on February 20 a scuffle broke out when Yahiya Khan insisted on paying the balance amount consequently leading to the stabbing incident.
