With two Congress leaders deputed to Manipur set to leave for Delhi tomorrow with a list containing 13 names seeking the party's ticket for the Parliamentary election, the name of the two Congress candidates are most likely to be announced on March 5 after scrutiny on March 4. The INC representatives, general secretary (North East) L Faleiro and secretary (North East) Major (Retd) Ved Prakash who arrived at Imphal today, minutely went through all the names of those seeking the party's ticket for the Lok Sabha election.
The two will take the list, containing the names of 13 ticket seekers, to Delhi tomorrow to get a final decision from the party's high command.
Speaking to The Sangai Express an official source said that soon after the arrival of the two leaders today, a meeting attended by the Chief Minister and office bearers of the MPCC (I) was held.
The two leaders also minutely studied the names of all the ticket seekers with the Election Committee of the MPCC (I).
The meeting closely studied the past records of the aspiring candidates as well as their current positions and it was agreed to let the party's high command take the final decision after the scrutiny scheduled to be held at Delhi on March 4. Mention may be made that five are seeking the party's ticket for the Inner seat.
The five are current MP Dr T Meinya, former Speaker Dr Maniruddin, MPCC vice president Abdul Salam, chairman of the media cell of the MPCC Seram Mangi and MLA I Hemochandra.
For the Outer seat eight have applied for the party's ticket.
They are RK Theko, Francis Ngajokpa, Jangmalung Panmei, MPCC vice president Dr Chaltonlien Amo, Ch Doungel, Ngamkholun Kipgen, Khanthang Tonsing and Thangso Baite.
The scrutiny to be held on March 4 will be headed by the chairman of the Scrutiny Committee Union Minister Valiyar Ravi and the other members include, L Faleiro, Chief Minister O Ibobi and MPCC president Gaikhangam.
