Excise drive continues

In sustained drive launched against selling and bootlegging of illicit liquor ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Excise Department of Manipur has burned down and destroyed 3, 956 liters of country liquor worth around at Rs 2, 80, 600 and 123 litres of foreign liquor including beer worth around Rs 3, 43, 500 as on Friday.
Personnel of the Excise Department conducted as much as 218 raids in and around Imphal city to seize liquor from different vendors and bootleggers, said K Joykumar, Nodal Officer, Excise and Assistant Commissioner, Government of Manipur.
Earlier in the day, personnel of the Excise also seized 650 litres of country liquor from two bootleggers.
The liquor was being carried in a Maruti Gypsy when the Excise personnel intercepted vehicle at the North AOC traffic point.
