Imphal, March 28, 2014:
Chief Minister O Ibobi has appealed to the public to give their perfect verdict against 'communal political parties' to completely defeat them in upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A democratic India does not need communal outfits and "we should always remain alert and stay away from them, the Chief Minister said while speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of the INC candidate and sitting MP Thangso Baite at his residence at Hmar Veng, Chrachandpur on Friday.
Baite is to contest the Lok Sabha polls for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat, the polling for which is scheduled for April 9. Ibobi said the next Government at the Centre should be liberally decided by the people in the coming crucial Parliamentary election and added that the people's mandate always chooses the right leader.
The Chief Minister went on to say that State Congress has already dared to assume victory of the two INC candidates for the Inner and Outer Parliamentary Constituencies.
He claimed that only the Congress can form a stable Government.
Deputy Chief Minister and MPCC president Gaikhangam, who was also present and spoke on the occasion, slammed Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for allegedly delivering 'communal' speech during a recent rally campaign at Senapati district.
Rio addressed the rally to garner support for Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate Soso Lorho who is contesting for the lone Outer seat.
Hitting back at Nagaland Chief Minister who had accused Congress party of being anti-Naga and anti-Kuki party, MPCC chief denounced the remarks by Rio as 'very unfortunate and baseless allegation.' Gaikhangam asserted that Rio's speech was aimed at inciting hatred among various ethnic communities in Manipur.
Congress never works to stir up communal feeling among the different communities of the State for its political gain, but rather it is a party which is trusted and loved by all, claimed Gaikhangam, who also holds additional charge of Home.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Congress MLAs and other members and workers of Manipur State Congress Committee (MPCC) were also present during the flag hoisting ceremony.
