Under ICDP (Rice), hybrid and high yielding variety of paddy seeds have been distributed to farmers of Mayang Imphal Chabung Company today.
Speaking at the seed-distribution function, Agriculture SE K Manoranjan called upon farmers to pay more attention in procuring modern agricultural equipment in order to modernise agriculture and enhance productivity.
He said that modern paddy cultivation equipment necessary from seed-sowing stage to the harvesting stage have been procured by Mechanised Section of Agriculture Department.
Equipment like tractor, pesticide sprayer, scything machine, thresher etc are with the Department.
These equipment are made available to farmers at subsidised rates.
Moreover, order for a power weeder has been sent to Bangalore to conduct trial, Manoranjan said.
Giving key-note address of the function, ICDP (Rice) Scheme in-charge L Ibomcha claimed that hybrid paddy variety PAC-407 cultivated under SRI method and IR-64 cultivated normally yielded 45 sacks of paddy per sangam on the average last season.
In the technical session, K Ibohal, Ng Nabakishore and Dr M Thoithoi gave detail explanation about SRI method and common paddy diseases to the attending farmers.
