Imphal, February 11, 2010:
The JAC constituted against the brutal killing of Thangjam Selungba has resolved not to claim the corpse until and unless the demands it put to the Government are fulfilled completely.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, the JAC functionaries said that Selungba was a humble villager who lived by selling gospel music albums.
Observing that all organisations cutting across community lines ought to condemn the brutal murder of Selungba, they lamented that the Government as well as NGOs seem to be margi-nalising people of Ukhongshang by maintaining stoic silence on the murder.
The Government should ascertain motives and identity of the killers and bring them to book, they demanded.
Five innocent villagers of Ukhongshang have been murdered in different hill areas in the last two years but the Govt never bothered to bring justice in all these case.
Such insensibility and irresponsibility of the Govt is only sowing seeds of communal animosity, the JAC functionaries decried.
In case of any untoward incident resulting from the totally callous attitude of the Govt with regard to the murder of Selungba, the Govt should held solely responsible.
Questioning the possible reason for murdering Selungba, they maintained that Selungba should have been given a chance to correct even if he had committed some mistakes.
But such abrupt killing only exposed the communal mindset of the killings.
Asserting that the people of Punanamei would be knowing the circumstances of the killing, the JAC sought cooperation of Punanamei villagers in identifying and punishing the killers.
