Imphal, February 13, 2010:
All Community United Front, Manipur today, with the view that the Manipur-India conflict can be ended with the peoples participation, announced that the front will start campaign to invite peoples mandate on the matter.
Speaking at a press conference here today at ACUF office, its general secretary, L Mangal said that the campaign will be at the local level in association with local clubs, Meira Paibees and other organisations.
Advisor of the front, Lanjagai Kamei and Ibotombi Angom also present in the conference.
The struggles on sovereignty demand by various revolutionary outfits have almost completed 42/43 years.
People have been victims of the conflict between the state and non-state actors for such a long time.
India government is enforcing Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 in the state in the name of suppressing the separatist movement.
Security forces have been allegedly engaging in killing people in fake encounter.
They are also targeting civilians when they could not fight with the undergrounds.
Many instances of tragic incidents like Malom massacre, RIMS massacres where several civilians including students were victims had occurred apart from hurting the modesty of women at various occasions by the security forces in the name of counter insurgency operations.
He further said that the revolutionary movement in the state can be viewed at three separate angles, firstly on the demand for sovereignty, secondly on the nationality and thirdly extortion in the name of revolutionary.
With the increase of numbers of groups said to be revolutionary, people of the state are bearing the burden of increasing activities of the extortion and collection of money in form of tax payable to them.
In the backdrop of this burdens and impacts to the people, now time has come to unite all the revolutionaries together in one platform, Mangal shared his opinion.
Armed undergrounds that are engaging in threatening people with bombs, firing guns and attacking houses for not meeting their demands should stop giving such kind of harassment and fear to the people, he appealed.
There is no definite ideology that armed struggle is the only means to achieve independent or sovereignty one demanding, he added.
In reply to questions raised by reporters, Mangal recalled that the ACUF was founded in 2000 but its active participation in social activities actually started from February 2009. He also claimed that the front has its members from different communities like the Meetei, Kabui, Pangal and different tribes of hill areas and trying its best for strengthening the front.
The front has in any way related with the Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur, Mangol clarifies giving reply to a question but added that it gets supports from intellectuals of the state.
The front is working with the objective of bringing peace, unity and emotional integrity.
